I thought it might be fun to change it up from my business blogs. I had a two hour drive coming back from a client and was a bit tired of the radio. I started thinking about what my personal Top 20 songs of all time were. They aren’t necessarily my favorite songs, they are what I feel are the best songs.

I came up with this list in about 15 minutes off the top of my head while in the car. I’m sure there are a ton of songs if I thought harder that would make this list for me. I didn’t want to put any more thought into this and just wanted to go with what immediately came to me.

It will be pretty obvious I’m mostly a rock, pop and country fan. It’s also obvious by when these songs came out that I’m old. I’m almost certain at least two of these songs are from this century. I’d love to get your thoughts on what your Top 20 would be.

I’m sure you’ll look at many of these and say I have absolutely no taste or have some glaring omissions. Share with me yours. Here is mine:

1: Smooth-Santana and Rob Thomas

2: Let it Be-The Beatles

3: American Pie-Don McLean

4: Freebird-Lynyrd Skynyrd

5: Don’t Fear the Reaper-Blue Oyster Cult

6: Bohemian Rhapsody-Queen

7: Something by Elvis-Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain or In the Ghetto

8: Remember When-Alan Jackson

9: Shake It Off-Taylor Swift

10: More Than a Feeling-Boston

11: King of the Road-Roger Miller

12: What a Wonderful World-Louis Armstrong

13: Shameless-Garth Brooks and Billy Joel

14: Piano Man-Billy Joel (I’ll give him his own song as well)

15: Stairway to Heaven-Led Zeppelin

16: Maggie May-Rod Stewart

17: A Real Fine Place to Start-Sarah Evans

18: I Should Have Been a Cowboy-Toby Keith

19: Say A Little Prayer-Dionne Warwick

20: Georgia-Boz Scaggs

20: Sugar Pie Honey (I Can’t Help Myself)-The Four Tops

20: I Will Always Love You-Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston

20: Walking on Sunshine-Katrina and the Waves

I had a tie for #20 between Boz Scaggs, Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton, the Four Tops and Katrina and the Waves. I’m a huge Motown fan and I had to pick one song from my favorite all time Motown band. I felt Dolly and Whitney deserved to be on the list and I enjoyed both movies the songs came from. I’m not sure if Katrina and the Waves had any other hits domestically but thought this was a catchy enough song to add it.

My first reaction is I have glaring omissions by not having anything from the Stones or Elton John as I am a fan of both. At the same time, this was supposed to be a quick off the cuff list. I’ll look forward to getting your Top 20.
